Say goodbye to the quilt cover slip.

How to Stop the Doona Slip

The doona slip, the little bed crime everyone knows too well. You make the bed, hop in, wake up to a lumpy, misaligned quilt. Enter quilt cover ties and loops: a simple, clever solution that keeps your linen quilt cover and duvet perfectly paired. In this post we’ll explain what quilt cover ties are, how they work with our French Flax linen bedding, and a quick step-by-step so you can sleep tight (literally).

Why quilt cover ties matter for your linen bedding

Linen is breathable, softens with every wash and looks effortlessly chic on any bed. But even the best linen quilt cover benefits from a little security.

Quilt cover ties:

- Prevent the duvet from slipping or bunching inside the linen quilt cover.

- Keep your linen sheets and bedding neat, so the bed looks finished all day.

- Extend the life of your bedding by reducing friction and wear from constant shifting.

Psst, our Hotel Cloud doona comes with a small loop, and our French Flax linen bedding uses removable quilt cover ties, designed to work together for a fuss-free bed every morning.

How quilt cover ties and loops work

1. Locate the loop on your quilt (doona).
Many good doonas (including our Hotel Cloud) have a small loop sewn into each corner or along the edges.

2. Turn your linen quilt cover inside out.
This makes it easier to reach inside and line up the corners.

3. Insert the duvet then align the corners.
Pop the doona inside the cover and line up the corner seams.

4. Thread the quilt cover tie through the loop.
Take the tie sewn to the inside of the quilt cover and feed it through the loop on the doona.

5. Fasten the tie with a simple knot or bow.
A single half-knot or bow keeps the tie secure but lets you remove it easily for washing.

6. Repeat for every tie/loop pair.
Most covers have four ties (one at each corner) secure all for best results.

7. Turn the cover right side out and zip/button closed. Shake the bed gently to settle the doona, you’re done.

Caring for your linen quilt cover & ties

  • Fasten ties before washing to avoid tangling.

  • Wash linen bedding on a gentle warm cycle and line dry where possible.

  • If a tie comes loose, a small hand stitch is an easy repair, or contact our customer care and we’ll help.
