Here's What Makes Linen So Sustainable
Posted: 25 September 2025
When it comes to fabrics, linen is one of the kindest choices you can make for the earth.
Grown from flax and made to last, it’s simple, sustainable, and timeless. That’s why all of our pieces at I Love Linen are crafted from 100% French flax.

1. Made from flax, not wasteful crops
Linen comes from the flax plant, which requires far less water and pesticides compared to cotton. Almost every part of the flax plant is used in production, leaving little to no waste.
2. Low environmental impact farming
French flax is grown in cooler climates with natural rainfall, so irrigation is rarely needed. This makes it a lower-impact fibre right from the start.

3. Strong and durable
Unlike fast-fashion fabrics that wear out quickly, linen is designed to last. With proper care, your linen bedding or clothing will soften with age while retaining its strength. Fewer replacements mean less waste.
4. Naturally biodegradable
At the end of its long life, linen breaks down naturally. Unlike synthetic fabrics, it won’t sit in landfill for hundreds of years.

5. Healthier for you, too
Linen’s breathability and thermoregulating qualities mean you’ll get better sleep while making a more sustainable choice. Comfort and conscience, together.
Sustainability is at the heart of what we do. That’s why we source our linen from France, where farming practices are rooted in tradition and responsibility. French flax is grown with minimal intervention, supporting both the environment and the farming communities that nurture it.
