Want more sleep?

We love to sleep, in fact, we love it so much that we want to share with you some of the best sleep tips we know.

We love to sleep, in fact, we love it so much that we want to share with you some of the best sleep tips we know. We also spoke to Byron Bay based Holistic Nutritionist, Melanie Sinclair of The Nutrition Effect to educate us all a bit more.

So without further ado, our first tip is on phones - the one thing we’re all addicted to that’s rarely further than a metre away from us.

According to Mel, “Smartphones emit blue light which has been shown to disrupt the production of our sleep hormone, melatonin. Exposure to blue wavelengths can result in skewing our circadian rhythm – the bodies biological clock." Or in other words, they yell at our brains “STAY AWAKE”.

So those late nights scrolling through your Instagram feed are a big no-no, and should instead be replaced with a book, or at least make sure your last scroll of social media etc is an hour before you want to be asleep.

And whilst we’re on the topic of winding down, enjoy a warm bath and burn some lavender oil, which is known for its calming properties before bed. “Lavender is my go-to night time essential oil. It is the perfect remedy to combat over stimulation, physical and mental exhaustion. Burning lavender oil or adding 5 drops to your bath before bedtime will ensure you drift into a relaxing and rejuvenating sleep!”.

Onto bedrooms. Do you have a plant in your room? If you do, go you! And if not, reuse some old jars and add some succulents or cacti to your room. Some other plants Mel recommended were “The Snake Plant or Mother-In-Laws Tongue are the perfect addition to your bedroom, cleansing the air we breathe at night by emitting oxygen and absorbing carbon dioxide". We know what our next purchase will be!
