We asked Kate Dalton, naturopath and owner of Mayde Tea, some questions to get an inside look into what she's up to this festive season, as well as learn more about Mayde Tea and the philosophy behind it.

1. What are you looking forward to for this festive season at home?

This Christmas we will be travelling down south to Tathra. Although I believe we live in paradise, there’s something really special and grounding about the south coast as it is where my partner and I both grew up. I think it’s healthy for me to be in places that aren’t oversaturated with things to do- so I am forced to slow down, rest and enjoy the simple things like reading a book and enjoying a tea in the morning sun.

2. What makes you feel most at home?

My family and my tea! I take our tea with me everywhere - even on holiday. It’s something I can't really live without, as it helps me feel grounded, nourished and at home no matter where I am.

3. What are some of the self-care rituals you love to practice?

I practice Vedic meditation and try to meditate twice a day. Since having our baby girl I’m super lucky if I squeeze the two in, though! Tea is a big part of self-care for me, and I have different blends for different times of the day, energy levels, symptoms and moods. Vitamin D and movement are huge for me and I feel much better for a few minutes in the fresh air and with the sunshine on my skin.

4. What is the perfect tea for energizing in the morning and for winding down at night?

In the morning I used to be a big Earl Grey drinker! I have recently switched to our energise blend- something very alkalising which is what our body craves on rising. I feel that this ready are my digestion and protects my body for the day. Every night I have our Serenity tea. It has been formulated to calm the mind, lessen anxiety, and assist a peaceful sleep. Serenity has always been an important part of my nighttime ritual.

5. What does sustainability mean to Mayde Tea?

With the growth we have experienced at Mayde Tea, I am compelled to evolve the business daily to adopt further sustainability practises and continue to tread lightly on the planet. From the packaging, we create refillable and reusable (and beautiful!) glass jars. I truly value quality over quantity and I intend to have our customers purchase our high-quality tea blends in long-lasting packaging that can be refilled. Those of the range that are not designed to be refilled is recyclable or compostable. Our tea strainers are made of high-quality stainless steel, so once you buy one, it won't need replacing. We send out our orders in recyclable packaging and have a cardboard perforator that allows us to reuse our delivery cartons as protective packaging in orders. In an ideal world, we would be totally closed-loop and plastic-free. But we are human and we can only do our best!
