Beautifully Imperfect: Inside a Home Designed for Real Life

Posted: 08 July 2026

Kim’s an interior designer who renovated her own home and still says the best thing it taught her was to trust her gut.

Her walls, she hopes, would say life here was beautifully imperfect, chaotic, noisy, and full of love.

We think that's the most beautiful brief for a home we've ever heard.

We sat down with Kim In Her Space to talk about the things she loves, what renovation really taught her, and the philosophy behind a home that people never want to leave.

Q: What's the one corner of your home that truly feels like you, and why?

A: Without a doubt, it would be our kitchen. It perfectly reflects everything I love about design — it's beautiful, functional and intentionally layered with texture and warmth. From the Venetian plaster splashback and warm timber joinery to the subtle use of tiles, soft curves and arches, and aged brass details, every element was chosen to create a sense of calm. As the heart of our home, it's a space that feels grounded, inviting and effortlessly lived in — which is exactly how I want our home to feel.

Q: What do you want guests to feel when they walk through your door?

A: I love entertaining, so it was important for me to create a home where friends and family naturally want to gather. While I appreciate beautiful spaces and thoughtful design, what matters most is that people feel instantly comfortable, relaxed and truly welcome. I want our home to be a place where conversations linger, laughter is shared, and memories are made for years to come.

Q: What has your home taught you about yourself?

A: That even as a designer, renovating is challenging. There are so many decisions to make, and decision fatigue is definitely real. It's taught me the importance of being knowledgeable, backing myself and not being afraid to speak up throughout the process. Most importantly, it reminded me to trust my gut — because more often than not, those instincts lead you in the right direction

Q: If these walls could speak, what do you hope they'd say about the life lived here?

A: That life here was beautifully imperfect. There was chaos, noise and mess, but there was also so much happiness, laughter and love. I hope these walls would remind us that these are the days we'll one day look back on and miss the most.
