I thought magnesium was just a trend, I was wrong.

I love sleep… a lot. I might even be sleeps biggest fan - it just doesn’t seem to like me back.

When sharing my annoyance over a yawn-filled lunch with my friends, they recommended that I try Magnesium. I’ve heard lots about this sleepy supplement, but I doubted how effective it could really be.

So, I did my research and found that Magnesium actually absorbs through the skin (pretty cool), so to avoid the potential nausea side effects of Magnesium pills, I found a Zechstein Magnesium spray from The Salt Box (known to be the purest and most natural form of Magnesium Chloride) and awaited its arrival.

Why is magnesium important (especially for sleep)?

Magnesium is involved in over 300 biochemical reactions in the body, including the ones that help your muscles relax and your nervous system wind down.

Basically, it helps switch you from “go-go-go” mode into “okay-let’s-rest-now” mode.

Low magnesium levels have been linked to poor sleep, restlessness, and even waking up through the night (story of my life). So giving your body a little boost might just be the gentle nudge it needs to settle into deeper, more restorative sleep.

What is magnesium spray?

Magnesium spray is simply magnesium in spray form. It’s applied directly to the skin, which allows for rapid absorption into the bloodstream, delivering to the cells and tissues as they need it. Because of this, the dosage can be regulated as required (instead of taking a whole pill).

When trying any new supplement, starting low and slow is the way forward. For the first couple of nights, I spritzed 2-3 sprays on the soles of my feet to help my skin get used to it.

Here’s how it went...

The first couple of nights felt very normal, much to my dismay. Maybe a bit more relaxed as I fell asleep, but nothing dramatic.

But by night four or five, something started to shift.

I was falling asleep faster. And more importantly, staying asleep (yay).

After about a week, I realised I wasn’t waking up groggy or dragging myself through the day like usual. I was sleeping longer (a solid 8+ hours), deeper, and waking up feeling actually refreshed (!) like I could easily jump out of bed and begin my day.

I’m usually a 7-hours-a-night kind of person, constantly yawning my way through the day. But since adding magnesium into my routine, I’m clocking over 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep. And because of that, I’m a lot more alert and probably a slightly better person than I was before.

Once I tried magnesium, everything changed. It might not be magic, but it’s now a non-negotiable part of my bedtime routine.

So, my recommendation? Try it out. A few sprays of magnesium on the soles of your feet might solve all your answers.
