It started on a trip to France
I had the joy of sleeping in soft, breathable linen that felt nothing like anything I'd slept in before. I came home and couldn't stop thinking about it. Almost 15 years later, I Love Linen exists because of that feeling, and everything we do is still in pursuit of it.
We're a small, local Australian team. We move slowly and work in small batches. Every piece in our range, from French flax linen sheets to our Hotel Cloud pillows and mattress toppers, is chosen with care, because we know that the difference between good bedding and great bedding is something you feel the moment you climb in.
What to Look for in Good Linen Sheets?
Not all linen sheets are created equal, and after more than a decade of sourcing, testing and sleeping in pure perfection, we know exactly what to look for.
It starts with the flax. The best linen sheets in the world are made from French flax, grown in the fields of Normandy and Brittany where the cool climate and rich soil produce fibres with a quality that simply can't be replicated elsewhere. When you see French flax linen, it matters.
The weave matters as much as the fibre. Linen that's been woven too tightly loses its breathability. Too loosely and it won't have the durability linen is famous for. The sweet spot is a weave that feels relaxed and lived-in from the first wash, and only gets better from there.
Weight is a clue. Quality linen sheets have a satisfying weight to them, not heavy, but substantial. If linen feels flimsy or papery, it's a sign the fibre quality isn't there.
It should get better with age. This is the thing we love most about linen bedding. Unlike cotton, which can pill and thin over time, good linen softens and improves with every wash. If you're buying linen sheets that don't seem to be getting softer, the quality of the fibre is likely the reason.
