"This one drink helped heal my gut health"
Posted: 14 July 2025
I thought gut health was just another wellness buzzword.
I never took gut health that seriously, until recently. I’ve started noticing bloating after every (!) meal, random breakouts, struggling to get myself out of bed, but also struggling to fall asleep at night.
I turned to Google (& Chat GPT) to see what could be the root cause and everything lead back to the gut - specifically my gut not having enough good bacteria. And to heal this, I was pointed in the direction of bone broth.
I’m always open to trying a natural fix before anything else, so I thought, why not? I started with Gevity Rx, who kindly sent me some of their concentrated bone broth to try.

What Is Bone Broth?
Bone broth is exactly what it sounds like: a slow-cooked broth made from simmering animal bones (in this case, 100% grass-fed beef). The long simmer helps extract nutrients rich in beneficial amino acids like glycine, proline, and lysine - all of which are amazing for your gut.
It’s not new (people have been making versions of it for centuries), but it’s definitely been having a moment in the wellness world.
Collagen and gelatin help support the gut lining, making it stronger. This is especially helpful if you’re dealing with symptoms like bloating, irregular digestion, or even skin flare-ups (me too).
A lot of people report better sleep, clearer skin, and more balanced energy once it becomes a regular part of their routine.

I tried bone broth for a month, here's how it went...
The first week, I noticed less bloating. Nothing dramatic, but I wasn't desperate to switch into something with a bit more give after every meal. It was like my digestive system had finally stopped hating everything I ate.
The second week, my digestion was getting better and my skin calmed down. My skin was smoother, not as red, and my breakouts were so much more controlled. I also noticed I had more energy in the afternoons (I don't drink coffee, but I can imagine this is the perfect replacement).
By the third week, I just felt more at ease in my body. I had a good morning ritual, I wasn't getting crazy blood sugar crashes, and it just felt good for me.
Most mornings now, I start the day with a mug of warm bone broth.
It's simple, but after noticing such a difference in my skin, bloating, and gut health, it's become a non-negotiable. I drink it BEFORE having any breakfast or sugary drinks (chai latte, cough cough), usually while I'm getting ready for work or I on my morning walk.
It’s nourishing, and actually really delicious. I've tried a few flavours, and Lemon & Herb has to be my favourite.

Benefits of Bone Broth In The Morning
I started having bone broth in the morning because it just felt like the right place to slot it in. And turns out, there’s actually a good reason for it.
Sipping on it first thing helps ease your body out of an overnight fast. It keeps your blood sugar steadier, your energy more balanced, and gives your system a bit of support before the day kicks off. The collagen, gelatin, and amino acids in it are great for digestion and can help calm inflammation too. It’s a simple ritual, but it really does make a difference, especially if your mornings usually feel rushed or a bit chaotic.
Can Bone Broth Replace Coffee?
Kind of. But also... it doesn’t have to.
The point isn’t to cancel coffee forever, it’s just about giving your body something gentler first. Bone broth in the morning helps support your digestion, blood sugar, and cortisol before you hit it with caffeine.
So if you still want your coffee, go for it, just try having your broth first and wait a little before brewing. It’s more about balance than quitting anything cold turkey.

Should You Try Bone Broth?
I’m not saying this is going to be for everyone, but I really think this helped heal my gut health. If you’ve been feeling off, this might be worth a go.
Start small, see how you feel, and try a few different flavours.
Here’s to warm mugs and happy guts!
