Before beginning her label Sara Bailes, Sara spent 10 years working in the fashion industry gaining experience from amazing labels such as Alpha60, Karen Walker and Gorman. She’s lived in New Zealand working as the Design Assistant for Karen Walker, taking her to New York to find inspiration and build the collections. Finally returning to Melbourne, she landed her role with Gorman as their shoe, accessory and swimwear designer where she built her portfolio up for the new 4 years.

After turning 30, it was time to switch it up and she began her own namesake label Sara Bailes, now produced in Bali. So, if you’re planning a trip to Bali sometime soon, keep reading to find out her favourite places to eat, drink and shop.

Morning beach walk with the puppies to Berawa Beach

We adopted two Bali street dogs – Patti Smith & Jodie Foster. Every morning my husband and I walk them down to Berawa Beach for a frolic in the water and tussle in the sand!

Workout (Triple Threat) at Motion Fitness

Best work out in Bali! I even bring my husband along to the group classes (which he loves). This is one of the best workouts I have ever done! They have a café attached to their fitness centre and offer meal plans that can be home delivered. I utilized this when I was preparing for my wedding and the results were ridiculous! I go to Motion 6 days a week – it’s the best way to get your sweat on before a hot day in Bali.

Brunch at Peloton Supershop

Just down the road from our house, our favourite local café! We met with our two Australian friends for brunch. It’s vegan and the breakfast burritos are out of this world. I will never get sick of this place! I love sitting on the balcony on the big table, cool breeze and an espresso = perfect.

Afternoon hangs at Potato Head with cocktails

Because my husband an I don’t get much time together, when we are actually in Bali at the same time, one of our favourite things to do is go to Potato Head. The Indonesian restaurant there is actually one of the best in Bali, but when not eating dinner there, it is a lie by the pool and drinks cocktail scenario. It always has an ocean breeze, there is a bar in the pool, and we always have a great time there!

Dinner at Ulekan

This place only opened a year ago, but it is HANDS DOWN the best Indonesian food in Bali. I just got married in Bali in December and convinced Ulekan to cater our wedding (they had never done catering before). The décor is spot on, food is delicious, staff are friendly and wine is decent (a hard task for Bali)! I probably go here a little too much as everyone in there knows me and knows my favourite dishes…must tries are the Jackfruit curry and the Sate Lilit.

Take the puppies to Old Man's for breakfast

Sundays are our day off fitness, so on Sunday mornings, we take our puppies to Old Man’s for breakfast. It is about a 30-minute walk up the beach from our house, and when we get there we like to enjoy a leisurely breakfast while our puppies run around and play with the other dogs! Although it’s definitely not the best breakfast in Bali, the atmosphere and surrounds are perfect to sit and eat breakfast overlooking the beach! Coffee is decent and the avo on toast is my standard order.

Nails done at Spring Spa in Canggu

Sunday’s are my day to get my beauty stuff done! I am a regular at Spring Spa in Canggu. I’ve tried almost every salon in Bali, and this is definitely the nicest to sit in. They only opened recently, but the design aesthetic is outstanding. Water features, comfortable chairs and crisp furnishings…it is the perfect mid-morning spot to get pampered!

Campugan Ridge Walk

We like to go on scooter adventures on Sunday afternoons and explore the island. Today we rode to Ubud from Canggu and walked along the Campuhan ridge. Super easy walk up a hill to then be surrounded by the Ubud jungle! The walk only takes around 40 minutes – a good way to get some exercise without really noticing because the views are so good!

Cocktails by the pool at Jungle Fish

At the end of the ridge walk is Jungle Fish which is Ubud’s version of Potato Head – “the no beach, beach club”. We chose a hanging daybed and ordered some cocktails, had a dip in the pool and my husband got a massage. They also have a hotel attached (which I have never stayed in) but have heard is amazing.

Dinner at Luigi's hot pizza

Our local artist friend Ican Harem was having a launch party at Luigi’s tonight so we went down for some pizza and beers! The guys behind Luigi’s also own Da Maria (my favourite pizza place in Bali). Luigi’s is outside with picnic bench seats and pizza served in takeaway boxes. I sometimes feel like the oldest person there, but it’s actually ideal for dinner with a big group of friends.
